Why so many Gilbert homes vent through the roof
Because the laundry room is upstairs, and the laundry room is upstairs because that is where the clothes are. Once builders started moving washers and dryers to the second floor, which became standard in Gilbert plans from the late nineties onward, the vent had nowhere sensible to go but up and out through the roof.
The alternative would be running the duct back down through the house and out a first-floor wall, which means a longer path with more turns and more places to clog. The roof won, and the result is a vent that climbs a wall cavity, turns at the ceiling or in the attic, and terminates in a hooded cap on your roof. Usually twenty-five to thirty-five feet with two or three elbows.
Compare that to a downstairs laundry room, where the duct rises about eight feet inside the wall, turns once, and exits through the exterior wall closest to the dryer. One elbow, eight feet, done. That is the whole difference, and it explains most of what follows.
Why roof runs clog faster
Three things stack up, and they compound.
Length
More duct means more surface area for lint to catch on. A thirty-foot run has roughly four times the interior surface of an eight-foot one.
Elbows
Air slows down at every turn, and slow air drops the lint it was carrying. Each elbow becomes a collection point, and once a little lint sits there it narrows the passage, which slows the air further, which collects more lint. It accelerates.
Gravity
This is the one people do not think about. In a horizontal side-wall run, lint that does not make it out just sits where it lands. In a vertical roof run, lint that does not make it all the way up falls back down and stacks at the bottom, at the first elbow, or right behind the dryer. The run is actively working against itself every time you do a load.

Why some companies avoid this work
Because it is harder and riskier, and the easy money is in single-story side-wall vents you can reach from the ground with a ladder and fifteen minutes.
A roof job means getting a ladder up, climbing two stories, and walking a concrete tile roof in Arizona heat without cracking anything. It takes longer, it requires knowing how to move on tile, and it carries real risk. So a lot of outfits quote the phone price for a standard vent, show up, look at your house and find a reason.
Before you book anyone for a two-story Gilbert home, ask one question: is roof access included in that price? The answer tells you most of what you need to know.

We brush the full run
The cheap way to do this job is to point a blower or a shop vac into the opening, move the loose lint at the ends, and drive away in fifteen minutes. It looks like a cleaning and it leaves the compacted material in the middle of the run, which is the part actually restricting your dryer. We drive a rotary brush the entire length and run a vacuum the whole time so the lint leaves your house instead of getting pushed deeper into it.
You see what came out
At the end of the job there is a pile of what was in your vent, and we show it to you. It is the least sophisticated quality check in the world and it is also the only one that matters. You will know immediately whether the job was worth $99.
We tell you when you do not need something
Both add-ons are optional and we say so on every page. If your transition hose is already rigid and in good shape, you do not need the hose upgrade and we will tell you that standing right there. If your machine is two years old, the lint trap housing probably is not worth $98 yet. The easiest way to lose a customer for good is to sell them something they did not need, and this is a small town.
