Seville was built around a golf course in the early to mid 2000s and the homes run larger than the Gilbert average. That is pleasant to live in and it is hard on a dryer vent.
The reason is simple geometry. A bigger house puts more distance between the laundry room and any exterior surface. Where a compact two-story might have a twenty-five foot run, a larger Seville plan can be pushing thirty-five feet with three or four elbows once the duct routes around the second-floor framing.
Run that through the code math and you are over the limit as built. Again, not a defect, and not something the builder did wrong at the time. It just means these runs have zero tolerance for neglect. The homes where nobody has cleaned the vent in fifteen years are the ones where the dryer stopped working years ago and the owner assumed it was the machine.
The golf course angle nobody mentions
Homes backing the course get a bit more organic debris in the air than the interior lots, particularly during overseeding in the fall when the whole course gets worked over.
That matters less for the duct itself than for the exterior cap. Fine organic material collects around the hood and in the flapper hinge, and a flapper that cannot close cleanly is how birds get in and how rain gets in. We check the cap on every job here for exactly that reason.

What the job looks like here
- Inspect the run. We find where it goes and how it terminates, check the exterior cap or roof hood, and look at the transition hose behind the machine. A surprising number of problems sit in the first three feet.
- Work it from the outside with the dryer running. We leave the machine running the whole time we are at the termination, so the air it is pushing carries the lint we agitate straight out of the run instead of letting it settle back down the pipe. It makes a mess outside. We clean that up.
- Work it from the inside. Machine unplugged, hose disconnected, dryer pulled back. We feed the brush through the vent from inside, bring the lint down toward us, and vacuum it up out of the wall rather than leaving it to resettle.
- Both ends on a long run, one end on a short one. A thirty-foot roof run with three elbows gets worked from both sides, because a brush fed from one end alone never properly reaches the far half. A short side-wall run does not need it and we will not pretend otherwise.
- Put it back and show you. Dryer reconnected where it belongs, run to confirm, and the pile of what came out sitting where you can look at it.

How often should I be doing this?
Every 10 months for a normal household. Every 4 to 6 months if you are a big family running laundry most days. Monthly for commercial machines. Those are schedules, not suggestions. And if you are waiting until the dryer gets slow before calling anyone, you are not due for a cleaning, you are about a year past due. The lint screen you clear after every load catches a fraction of what the system produces. The rest of it is sitting in your duct and in the lint trap housing underneath that screen, which nothing empties on its own.

Run the dryer on the air fluff setting and go feel the airflow at the exterior vent. Strong steady air means the duct is clear and your problem, if you have one, is the appliance. Weak air or none means the duct is restricted. That test costs nothing and takes two minutes, and we would rather you did it before calling anyone, including us.
