Should you get the lint trap housing done?

Here is what this actually is. Your lint screen sits in a slot, and that slot is the top of a cavity that runs down into the machine. The screen catches the obvious lint. Everything finer than the mesh, plus everything that slips past when you pull the screen out, falls down into that housing and stays there. Nothing empties it. It is not a maintenance item most people even know exists.

On a dryer more than about five years old there is usually a genuinely surprising amount packed down in there, and it restricts airflow right at the source before the air ever reaches the duct.

Worth it if: your dryer is more than five years old, or you have never had it done, or you have pets.

Skip it if: the machine is nearly new. Save the $98 for next time.

Should you get the hose upgrade?
